Chimps Are Vile!

The PG Tips Chimps Notwithstanding
 - Conrad finds them exceedingly ugly, a violent little beggars, too - you recall "2001: A Space Odyssey" and the evil little hominid rascals bashing their way to the top of the food chain by brute force and bone clubs?  Well chimps in the wild have been observed to arm themselves with sharpened branches.
Look out, Hom. Sap - someone's after your place at the top of the dinner table.
At the other end of the warm and fuzzy scale, you have the Orang Utang, that gentle and sombre old man of the forest.  Or woman.  No gender bias here at BOOJUM!
Now, these thoughts are not peculiar to Conrad.  O no.  The Lovely Ladies Who Lunch (Katie and Becca) agreed with me on both these species.

Speaking Of Animals -
Let's see if we can keep this particular thematic ball rolling.
What graced the front page of the Chip Shop Wrapper today?  This:
This is advertising something, but I've no idea what.
AD AGENCY FAIL
Bah!  Look at that daschund.  Practically the same body dimensions as a weasel.
When will we see the weasel assume it's rightful place in advertising?
I'll get back to you on that.

Shakeshaft
Ah, today's merciless malleting of the Bar of Avon is mercifully short and pithy*, and fortuitously also continues the animal theme:

"Out, damned Spot!
I know, I know, a dog is for life, not just Christmas".

Well it made me laugh. Chortle.  Snicker?  My lips curled, honest.

"Insidious 3"
Seen on a bus poster, and this really is art imitating life.  I've seen "Insidious", which is a pretty effective low-budget horror film for those of you living in a sink-hole in the Indonesian archipelago of late.
And the franchise really is sneaky and underhand - almost insidious in fact - because I'd no idea that an "Insidious 2" existed.

Darth Sidious.  Close enough

"Danny Collins"
Another film poster, and one that annoys Conrad.  Annoys him A GREAT DEAL!
"Why is this so?" I can hear you asking, a quiver of fear in your voice**.
Because the title and poster give you exactly 0% information about what "Danny Collins" is about.  The only clue is Al Pacino grinning smugly.
NO!  You can't assume it's a comedy.  He could be grinning smugly and looking on as the busload of kidnapped nuns are eaten by cyborg dinosaurs, him being an evil time-travelling psychopathic scientist.
Now, in contrast, look at "Mad Max: Fury Road" on the posters.  You are in no doubt whatsoever about what this film is about.

Michael Collins.  A far better deal.
"Eponymous"
Ah, we've all come across these.  It means to be named after something - "Peter Gabriel" being the eponymous album named after the artist, and pretty good it is too.  "Peter Gabriel 2", on the other hand, has some songs so depressing they ought to be banned for darkening the daylight if played.
Conrad guessed it has Greek roots, and is correct: it is derived from "Eponomus" meaning "Giving name".
BOOJUM! - leaving you better informed.  Perhaps a bit worried as well, but definitely better informed.

There you go!

Royksopp
If you read the blog over time then you will know Conrad has a big place in his heart for these Norse musos.  They don't simply repeat a winning formula with slight variations, each album is different.
Was different.  The rascals are chucking-in the conventional CD-release approach, making Conrad very wary about what they get up to next.
Anyway, now that Grooveshark has gone***, and I can't play Last fm, I am resorting to Youtube for music, and came across Royksopp's "I Had This Thing", herein the link:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEeqramL4mQ

Warning: don't watch whilst feeling glum.  Dearie me what a depressing video!  First of all, the singer is Jamie Irrepressible, who ought to be renamed Jamie Out-Morriseyingly-Miserablist-Man.  Then we see a couple breaking up, badly, and the woman driving off, whereupon a giant electrical plastic rainbow thingy in the sky explodes and sets her car alight and she snuggles up to her ex- whilst the car burns -
     I think.
Norwegian techno music videos.  Very Jan Svankmaer.

Still Out!
Just up and left of dead centre
Yes, that bulb is still blown.  Perhaps it would be time to run a sweepstake on when it gets replaced?  With a bonus if you catch the electrician in the act?

Facebook, You What?
Really, the "Suggested Posts" on Facebook are baffling in both intent and origin.  Take the latest:
Nurofen.  Really?
Conrad, being an alien-in-human-disguise, does not get headaches.  Back on the homeworld if you get a headache you are clearly of faulty design, so it's back to the Rendering Vats for you, matey.
And at what point in the past has Conrad ever, EVER, EVER indicated a desire, penchant or longing to know about headache tablets?

Er, What?

I took this screenshot last night - and have no idea why.
Oh!  Now I know - that top line states "The earliest documented use of "engineer" as train driver was 1816 in the UK".
This is a bit premature.  Commercial railways in the UK didn't begin until the 1820's.

Any Excuse -
Allow an old man a little indulgence.  Public Service Broadcasting:
Performing "Spitfire" in Texas
Conrad wonders what this contemporary American audience make of a paean to that most excellent aeroplane the Spitfire^, in and around the year 1940.  Kind of a cultural gap to bridge, no doubt, but there goes J. Wilgoose^^, our ambassador in musical form, doing his best to Educate, Entertain and Inform.

That's the 60 minutes up.  What's our word count?  Oops!  Nearly a thousand words.  Sorry!^^^
Oh no - the extra bits boosted it to 993 words, and this bit just boosted it to 1,010.  Sorry again!^^^

* In the sense of "wit", not orange peel.  Just so we're clear.
** Don't worry, I'm a great big marshmallow in real life.  Mostly.
*** SOB!
^ A plane so wonderful it looks fast even when standing still.
^^ Esq.
^^^ Actually I'm not sorry.  Not one bit.
