A Photo-Essay Of The Day

With Some Other Stuff Thrown In
After all, what kind of dull and predictable world would it be if Conrad remained true to the criteria of a BOOJUM! post?
   Bleak grey monotony, is what.
Grey's Anat - close enough
Okay - "Nol Prosequoi"
I introduced this on today's earlier post, and didn't explain what it was.  In fact all that I posted was the title and "Okay".
That's actually an hilarious pun.  You see, "Nol Prosequoi" is Latin for "Do not proceed" and is, obviously - obviously! - a Latin phrase, meaning that the legal case should not be taken any further.

Before And After
As mentioned yesterday, the old thatch adorning Conrad's cranium was getting a bit tatty, so it was time for a Payday Haircut.
     Here we see the "Before":
I think the "square-eye" effect is accidental
Ah, yes - that prognathous* jaw, that simian brow -
     And now for the "After":
So, so severe.
Er - it doesn't look much different, but be advised it is.

Hello You Foppinjay!
One of the sheer, unadulterated pleasures of shopping at Fopp! in Manchester is dealing with staff who like music and who are not simply pushing a product, trying to hit targets or eking out their student grant.
This, of course, is an extremely bad thing for Conrad's bank balance - except today he came across their second-hand record section of CD's that have been quality controlled before being shrink-wrapped again, all for £2 each, which is getting down to parity with i-tunes.  At these prices, who needs to get illegal downloads?
Part of today's haul
And Today's Book Haul -
Yes indeed.  "Guns" because although Conrad is quite the authority on the weapons of World War One - Short Magazine Lee Enfield .303 calibre anyone? - and World War Two - Blacker Bombard anyone? - when it comes to modern weapons he's a bit out of his depth.
"Thirst" looks interesting - water management in the Classical world.  Don't look bored, you won't last 48 hours without water, so how did the dynasties of Egypt or Babylon manage? Don't forget these countries do not possess the climate of the UK where water drops from the skies in enormous quantities at regular intervals.
And, a little surprisingly, the "History of the Seventeenth Division", a 1929 publication that arrived after only being ordered in the small hours of Thursday.  The spine is split and it has bas-relief titles missing from the front cover, but it's not in altogether bad nick for a book nearly 85 year old.
I hope I look as good at 85 ...
The Bargain Of The Day
Conrad always has a nosey around the charity shops in Royton, looking as always for interesting books**.
What's this?  A wicker basket outside the Red Cross shop, and the note attached states:  "51 CDs for £5"
They are classical CDs and I only have 3 already , so - what's a man to do?
Buy them!
Lentil Bolognaise
After spying the recipe for this in the latest Co-Op pamphlet, Conrad carefully assembled the ingredients and made it this afternoon.

Now, it's not bad.  Gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian and there's tons of it.  I did use up the last of our homegrown Oregano on it, which might have perfumed it a little too much for the sensitive palate.
However, House Rules:  Conrad made it = ergo Conrad has to eat it, regardless of what it tastes like.

* Can't remember what this means, but it sounds impressive, right?
** Interesting to him.  Your mileage may vary.  And probably will.
