The Hobbit

O But Yes!
Although not first thing.  For the first thing in the Intro, we must divert the suspicions of the International Hamster Collective, for truly Little Brother Is Watching You.
Kate, who rubs shoulders with the rich and famous, or at the very least the elbows of the well-off and feted, promoted a fillum on Facebook yesterday, saying that Benedict Cumberbatch is terrific as Alan Turing in "The Imitation Game".
A batch of cumbers.  Close enough
No! replies, Conrad, reacting in the time-honoured BOOJUM! Film Critic style*:  No!  I do not intend to go see Turing playing Charades for ninety minutes, even if they resort to having a jig (it does have a Dance in it, you see).

"Neue Eece Eeb Eeb" - phonetically, "BBC 1" backwards.  Just so you know.

More Of Doctor Who
I was in a slight hurry this morning, having delayed slithering out of bed to don my human camouflage for the sake of "Just a few minutes longer ..." which is verrry dangerous as the tendency to nod off completely is still there.
Anyway, confining my breakfast to a glass of nice cold water and a glass of cloudy lemonade, I dashed off for the bus, without enough time to open my Doctor Who Advent Calendar**.  I know!  Shocking!
This preyed on my mind all day long.  What was behind Door Number 8?  Was it going to be a new monster?***Would it be another differently-coloured Dalek? By ripping the door off could I peek into the adjacent mouldings?
     I'm so happy!  Look -
A Blue Sontaran

 - with all his little plastic chums
My notes at this point say "What's behind the door?  Who knows!" except not even he does.

Yes, yes, be patient - we'll get to The Hobbit shortly!

"Lutfen"
I know it sounds German, but this is actually Arabic.  Yes.  It means "To be kind and friendly", and it popped into Conrad's consciousness because he had to plead lack of homework to Roxy at work.
"Lotfan" in Farsi is taken to mean "Forgive me", which is a rephrasing of "To be kind and friendly", and I was pleading because Roxy (who is Iranian) asked me to come up with a different phrase in Farsi each day.  That "Just a few minutes longer ..." had repercussions, you see.
Anyway, "Lutfen" and "Lotfan" are not to be confused with "Lutefisk", which is a Norwegian delicacy - fish pickled in sodium hydroxide.  Bleach to you and me.
Can't think of a witty picture so here's a Bromeliad

Euphrosyne
Ah - er - sorry, once again one of those words that pop into Conrad's fertile/febrile/feeble mind with no reason or explanation.  I did think she might be one of the Greek Muses, who are rather hard to pin down in terms of numbers - seven, nine or seventy-nine are all equally valid.
The instant the lunch siren sounded, Conrad was on Google like <thinks> a thermocline layer over a silent-running submarine.  "Euphrosyne" -
     - is one of the three Charities, who are attendant on Aphrodite and Eros, and whose mission in life is to fill the world with good will and serene moments.
One might almost say to fill the world with Lutfen ...
Auldlangsyne.  Close enough.
The Weather
Conrad, as any fule kno, is an alien from the iceworld Delta Pavonis IV, and finds normal human operating temperatures to be close to meltdown - 12 Centigrade is Death Valley hot for Conrad.
So.  The forthcoming cold blast is being looked forward to at the Mansion with wild hilarity!  Bring it on!
Ahhhh.  Home.
(Still can't stand "Frozen", though)

The Hobbit
Okay, okay, I know what you're thinking - but if they called it a "Venus" bar it would have all sorts of NSFW rhyming schemes - Oh!  Sorry, you were wondering about either the forthcoming film by Peter Jackson^, or the source novel by J.R.R. Tolkein?
Sorry, nothing to do with either of those:
GRAAAGH!  The Conrad attacks
Deprived of trace mineral elements in his diet, Conrad goes for the cooker, specifically the hob.  He bit it.^^

BOOJUM! Does Not Do Current Affairs
No, and if you scan the news headlines at the BBC website you'll see several dozen horrid reasons why.
     And yet, and yet ...
There is a bit of a contextual scrimmage occasioned by that chap Nigel Nearera, banging on about - traffic?  And immigrants?  Behold!
"Where are your $!#*ing  hand signals!"
"Shock horror!  Italian immigrants on the Londinium-Deva road cause traffic chaos!!  Important Proconsuls are held back by chariot-jams!!!"

Late Breaking News!
Conrad just discovered that Altair is 16 light years from Earth.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT!
Because in "Forbidden Planet" the UP cruiser C-57D takes 2 years to get to Altair Four - meaning that their hyperdrive system works at 8 times the speed of light.
You probably have to be a geek and a nerd to appreciate this.
The Krell Machine: responsible for one heck of a utilities bill, one suspects ...

* Arbitrary, literal and usually a right-angle away from reality.
** I know I'm milking this but allow me to bask in a bit of reflected glory.
*** Yes, they are monsters.  None of this "morally-challenged different culture ethical opt-out" blather.  Monsters!
^ Amongst others.  He did "Bad Taste" almost solo, yes; Conrad understands this film is a bit bigger in budget and scope.
^^ Hob bit.
