When I went for my afternoon constitutional into Lesser Sodom today, there was a touch of 'Scotch Mist' in the air, that very fine rain which is still entirely wet. By the time I reached the fleshpots of Royton, the rain had ceased altogether. It's now brightening up and there is a danger it might get sunny enough for Small Domesticated Wolf to need a trot. We shall see. Art!
Conrad knows the answer to this: it was the lowly and humble Sturmgeschutz, or Assault Gun, which was an obsolete tank with the turret taken off and a fixed barbette used instead, mounting a larger gun than originally used. Much cheaper to produce than a tank, and with a lower profile, they were jolly effective. See 'Carentan' from 'Band Of Brothers' for an absolutely spot-on replica of one in action.
