- this will take a bit of explaining. First of all, you have to reverse the polarity of the neutron beam - no, wait a minute, that's Doctor Who, isn't it? First of all, I need to explain what a 'Doppelganger' is. As you can guess, the word is German in origin*, and translates as "Double Walker", meaning an exact copy of a living person. No, we are not talking Captain Scarlet here, this goes back to the 18th Century! This exact copy is of dubious provenance, usually being an evil twin who seeks to destroy the original and take their place. Hardly world-shaking wickedness, unless you happen to be the original.
I'd like to gang up on this! |
Conrad. OR IS IT! |
My mind has never been terribly well-organised at the best of times, and thus I begin to wonder if Steve (my memory) and Oscar (my subconscious) are failing on the job, or slacking off entirely. The Doppelganger part is me purchasing duplicate, and thus unwanted, copies. Art?
I did wonder about the IWM book, and upon checking my very long list of mil. hist. books, yes I did already have it. Rather than deposit in a charity shop, I need to pass it on to a willing acceptee, so let me know. The other duplicate is "Kid A", which again I already had, and would have known if I'd bothered to check my i-pod before buying.
So there you go, today's blog title explained. I'm sure you are all grateful**.
Just Plain Dredd
This is an example of media bias, if you ask me. I know you didn't, but you're going to get told anyway, so you may as well bite the bullet.
Why was the following tucked away without any fanfare, instead of being headlined as the major news it so surely is?

Because some of you are idle and won't bother clicking the link, allow me to expound. The article is about a big-budget television adaptation of 'Judge Dredd', and here's the picture that Auntie Beeb used:
Dredd in foreground, his brother Rico in the background |
Oh, by the way - don't worry, I'll shut up about Dredd after this - ignore the Sly Stallone film, the Karl Urban one is far, far superior.
"Fancy words, creep!" |
"MakeAMovieOrBookDrunk"
I now understand that this is a theme on Twitter that crops up from time to time, with the prefix "Make A Movie -" before the audience gets to customise it. Of course, mucking about with words is a thing with Conrad, so how could I resist? I didn't keep track of how many I posted, so allow me to pop back and forth between Twitter and here:
'Se7evn %'
'Harry Potter and the Half-cut Prince' (people liked that one)
'The Thin Red Stripe Line'
'Alcoholoo'
'The Wild Turkey Bunch' (It's a brand of whisky)
'12 O'Clock Highball'
'How Stella Artois Got Her Groove Back'
'Bottle of Britain'
'The Longest Dray'
'Drunkirk'
I went, mostly, with a theme there. And do you know, I enjoyed it.
A dray. Just so we're clear |
I realise three exclamation marks is a bit much, but I like to make a point now and then. COF is a comic book published by Dark Horse back in the Nineties, and I have the run of four in my cupboard somewhere. Art?
Kept small so as not to scare you too much |

* Hooray! Not Greek or Latin, for once.
** Except perhaps Robbie Robertson
