More applicable than last week's title, I think you'll agree.  "Stern" in this instance meaning what the less nautically-inclined call "The back end of a ship", rather than anything that smacks of implacable, inflexible, steely-eyed resolve, because that describes Judge Dredd.

CAUTION!  This man has absolutely NO sense of humour

     Here an aside.  Yes, the Mega-cities of the future are hellish pressure-cookers full of crime and weirdoes, with the Judges wielding dictatorial powers of control, where unemployment is the norm, the Black Atlantic is a giant chemical sewer - but just think of the positive aspects!  No lawyers involved in the judicial system, no erratic magistrates nor elitist judges (small "j"), and a vanishingly small chance of Judges ever going bad because 1) They have the SJS to keep an eye on them and 2) If caught then they get surgically modified and sent to the penal colony on Titan.  Yes, that Titan; the moon of Saturn.
