That scene in "The Battle of Britain" where the Polish training squadron is aloft during a major Luftwaffe raid, and the Polish pilots spot the German bombers. Ignoring orders to head back to base, they all politely say "Repeat Please" as if unable to understand English, and then they all peel off to engage the enemy.
Back on the ground, a very annoyed British squadron leader tears a strip off his pilots in English, his words being translated into Polish by an interpreting pilot.
"And finally, and God alone knows why, but this squadron is now operational," he finishes. Oddly enough the Poles know exactly what that means without translation.
None of that Polish chit-chat here, thanks! |
