That encapsulates all the above.
I don't know where it came from, nor why I bothered to download it, nor why I kept it. "Determinism versus free will" is one of the old philosophical debating points; similarly in Psychology you get the "Nature Versus Nurture" debate, which Conrad always found to be a false comparison, since you are creating a value system of only two points, rather than a scalar system -
I'll just delete it, shall I?
A branding iron. I know, I know, nothing to do with the post above, I just like it |
"Tumult"
As in that book title, "Tumult In The Clouds" (about a World War One fighter pilot IIRC). Or, more often seen, "tumultuous". As in "the audience gave Eels a tumultuous reception*"
Why does Conrad have these words pop into his head, despite wearing a lead-lined motorbike helmet? Perhaps we'll never know <dramatic pause for effect, spoiled by the tomcat Beej snoring>
It means a loud noise as made by a crowd. As many words do, it derives from Latin and "Tumultus", which means a loud noise as made by a crowd. Modern Italian has the word "Tumulto", so they are consistent across time.
No, don't thank me, Conrad is merely fulfilling the charter requirement of BOOJUM! - education.
Yakult. Close enough |
Erm - Heart, Art And Lemon Tart
Damn it! Although Conrad has tried to remain free from the emotional attachment evoked by human artwork, a bit of appreciation has inveigled itself into his central fusion-powered pumping unit*. In other words, he has found that he likes the works of Maurits Cornelius Escher, Piranesi, Gustav Klimt and Wasily Kandinsky.
Why is any of this relevant, I hear you asking - you've been asking these questions quite a lot of late, I notice, and it had better not become a common practice - well, it would seem that food displayed as per a Kandinksy picture is rated as more appealing than the standard "thrown on a plate" version or the "OCD grid" one. Here the link:

So. Gaze upon Conrad's hexagonal Lemon Tart:
I was thinking of posting a series of photographs as the pie gets et, however it's a pretty solid cake and trying to finish it might finish me.
More Of The Mansion's Garden Furniture
I know what you're thinking - "Why should we bother whether Conrad is comfortable in the back yard or not? I mean, what can he do!"
What can I do? You'd be surprised. Unpleasantly surprised.
Obviously - obviously! - I can't give away the secrets of the
Grumpy old men. Well, one grumpy old man. |
Why is this relevant? Only that the corner seat as perched upon by Conrad is wonderfully still, no breeze tugging the pages or trousers, even if there's a tidy wind blowing across the rest of the yard.
That's Quite Enough Of That!
The "that" in question being a series of adverts placed across the media, all to do with the Racing Post and which ads endeavour to get you, the punter, to stop "Headless Betting".
For once, words fail Conrad |
We dodged the bullet there, eh?
Bruce Campbell - 56 Today!
Congratulations to the old get.
If you dare to admit that you don't know who Bruce Campbell is, THE EXIT DOOR IS OVER THERE!
Bruce, for your information, played Ash in Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2 and - you saw this coming, didn't you? - Evil Dead 3.
He was also in the film "Congo" and that one with the screaming brain. Also in the wonderful but short-lived TV series "The Adventures Of Brisco County Junior", and the not-bad and much longer-lived TV series "Burn Notice".
O the handsome devil! |
